NUWC Partners to Accelerate Commercialization of Undersea Technologies

Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Division Newport (NUWC Division Newport) and the Southeastern New England Defense Industry Alliance (SENEDIA) announced a Partnership Intermediary Agreement (PIA) on 5 December during an event held at NUWC Division Newport.   This PIA will promote cooperative activities between NUWC Division Newport, the State of Rhode Island, SENEDIA members, including small business firms, and educational institutions.

 

“NUWC Division Newport is excited about the opportunity to work with SENEDIA as a way to accelerate the licensing and commercial development of inventive undersea technologies,” said Technical Director Mary Wohlgemuth of NUWC.

 

As a partnership intermediary for NUWC Newport, SENEDIA will assist, counsel, advise, evaluate and cooperate with small businesses and educational institutions to make productive use of their technologies.  The agreement was signed by NUWC Division Newport Commanding Officer Captain Geoffrey G. deBeauclair and SENEDIA Executive Director Molly Donohue Magee.

 

Other NUWC Division Newport representatives included Technical Director Mary Wohlgemuth, Deputy Technical Director Don Aker, Chief Technology Officer Dr. Vic Ricci and the Head of the Technology Partnerships Office Dr. Theresa Baus.  Also representing SENEDIA was the Chairperson of the Board of Directors Tim DelGiudice.

 

Part of the Naval Sea Systems Command, NUWC Division Newport is the Navy’s full-spectrum research, development, test and evaluation, engineering, and fleet support center for submarine warfare systems and many other systems associated with the undersea battlespace.  SENEDIA is the regional defense industry alliance focused on enabling the development of critical undersea, cybersecurity and defense technologies, fostering thought leadership and facilitating the required workforce development.
