Information and Educational Sessions

UTIC offers  presentations and talks on topics of interest to our undersea and maritime community.  Some are designed for UTIC members, and others are open to non-members of the technical community looking to find out about the consortium and undersea technology.

Undersea Technology: The Future of Exploration and Discovery

The ocean covers over 70% of the Earth’s surface. There is a growing interest in undersea technology, as we seek to better understand the ocean and its resources.

What is undersea technology?

Undersea technology is any technology that is used to explore or exploit the ocean depths. This includes everything from submarines and submersibles to robots and sensors. Undersea technology is constantly evolving, as scientists and engineers develop new ways to explore and understand the ocean.

Why is it important?

The ocean is a vast and largely unexplored resource:

It is a vital part of the Earth’s ecosystem. It regulates the climate, provides food and oxygen, and is home to a vast array of life. Undersea technology can help us to better understand the ocean and its role in the Earth’s ecosystem.

It is a potential source of new energy and resources. Undersea technology can help us to tap into these resources and develop new technologies that can help us to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.

What are some applications of Undersea Technology?

Undersea technology is being used for a variety of applications, including:

  • Scientific research: Undersea technology is being used to study the ocean environment, including the effects of climate change.
  • Commercial purposes: Undersea technology is being used for a variety of commercial purposes, such as oil and gas exploration, deep-sea mining, and underwater construction.
  • Military purposes: Undersea technology is being used by the military for a variety of purposes, such as submarine warfare, mine detection, and underwater surveillance.
